CULTURAL ARTS
This Committee works with the Student Council to organize events that allow students to help the Community
Participants of this Committee bring art appreciation into the classrooms; training and materials are provided.
The National PTA Reflections program is available to all Murdock students. Working on this committee, you will encourage students to participate in this nationally recognized contest involving creative writing, visual arts, music, and photography.
Promotes reading and writing through various programs and presentations.
Projects, programs, and resource materials are planned by this committee to coordinate environmental education enrichment and grounds beautification with the existing curriculum at Murdock.
This committee provides information on meetings and support groups to parents of exceptional children. Also, the committee works to provide resources to help meet the needs of Murdock's diverse population of parents and students.
Programs are organized to disperse the latest technology information to the school community.
This Committee promotes interest in mathematics.
Parents are offered programs on issues pertinent to elementary school students.
This Committee works with students to develop positive responses to peer pressures and other social situations.
These parents help plan and coordinate parental assistance for the following activities: field trips chaperones, classroom events, annual party, teacher appreciation week, and PTA sponsored events. The purpose of this committee is to promote the development of a comprehensive health program in the community.
This committee works to enhance the current curriculum at Murdock and bring an expanded knowledge of health-related issues to the attention of the students and parents.
This committee provides hearing and vision screening, free of charge to the students of Murdock. No experience is necessary; training is provided.
Students and families become more enlightened about being more physically fit.
Red Ribbon Week is an annual event that is part of a nationwide campaign to call attention to the devastating effects of drugs on individuals, families, and communities. The "Red Ribbon" became a signal to reduce the demand for drugs and to stop its illegal use. The week’s activities are geared toward reinforcing a determination in our students to live healthy, drug-free lives. PUBLIC RELATIONS/MEDIA SERVICES
A Planning Committee meeting is held in the spring with the principal, PTA co-presidents, and teachers to plan the calendar of events for the following school year. The calendar chairperson attends this meeting and designs the calendar and has it printed during the summer.
This Committee creates the yearly "Logo" for the PTA.
The purpose of this committee is to assist committees in providing publicity for their projects and for Murdock. Events that are well publicized are well attended. Events should be publicized to local newspapers, television, and radio stations as well as the Georgia State PTA.
The monthly newsletter published by the Murdock PTA. The newsletter editor compiles all articles submitted each month into a newsletter format. The newsletter is taken to a printer for copying. The newsletters are mailed monthly. Deadline to submit information for the Newsletter is the 15th of each month. Information can be emailed to murdocknews@earthlink.net.
This Committee maintains the posting of school information on the marquee in front of the school.
The school directory is published each school year and includes the student’s name, parent’s name, address, and phone number of each student by grade level and class.
This committee helps to educate our students and the community about the needs of others and to provide an opportunity to respond to those needs. This includes projects that promote awareness of the school as part of the community, as well as, service projects to the greater community.
This Committee is responsible for gathering information, creating the layout and design, and maintaining the Murdock PTA website (http://www.murdockpta.com)
FAMILY FUN This committee sponsors several fun events for students and their parents during the school year.
This Committee organizes a special evening gazing at the star and procures telescopes.
This annual events is a 1-mile run for students and family members.
The organizers of this event are responsible for booking a local band for entertainment and coordinating parking. All Murdock families are invited to spread a blanket and bring a picnic basket, and be entertained while having casual family picnic.
GROUNDS & MAINTENANCE This committee is responsible for planning and implementing school improvement projects. Some projects include the beautification of the school.
HOSPITALITY Hospitality members help to create an inviting environment at Murdock PTA programs and events. This committee provides food and refreshments at various PTA sponsored events during the school year.
MEDIA CENTER Volunteers are needed to assist students and staff in locating books, checking out materials, processing new resources, assisting with technology, and shelving books and other references. The media center staff provides training. Volunteers are needed to assist in ordering and stocking the office supplies used. The also help with keeping the Media Lab neat and organized. This committee coordinates appreciative gifts to be given to staff members during Teacher Appreciation week. The School Store is open on Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:30 AM to 7:55 AM. We strive for a high level of student involvement and provide a convenient way to purchase basic school supplies. This committee defines the fund-raising needs and activities for the school and sponsors events to meet those needs.
Volunteers oversee the creation, production, and sales of the Murdock Cookbook.
This is an annual event held in September for the whole family. Our Partners in Education get involved, and we invite the community to join in the fun. Volunteers are needed to participate in all levels of this family fun event.
Gift-wrap is our primary fund-raiser at Murdock. It includes gift wrap, food, and gift items. Volunteer’s are needed from each class to verify orders, count money, troubleshoot problems, assist in delivery, and of course, to promote this fund-raiser. Gift-wrap orders are delivered to Murdock and distributed to parents during first conference week in the beginning of each school year. This fund-raiser begins the first week of school, so some preparation is required during the summer. This is the PTA’s largest fund-raiser and supports a variety of programs throughout the year.
Permanent bins are located on the Murdock school property for 24-hour deposit of newspapers, aluminum cans, and magazines. Please recycle, it not only helps our environment, but the school benefits from it, too!
Various talented volunteers are needed to organize this annual fund raising event. Duties include everything from solicitation of donations to clean-up. This is a great and fun Committee to get involved with to meet other parents of students at Murdock.
This event takes place in conjunction with the Silent Auction. Students play Bingo to win books. No child leaves without being a winner. Committee members are responsible for getting books donated as prizes and the setup of tables and chairs for this activity.
Volunteers of this committee advertise and coordinate this popular fund-raising activity. Skating parties are held at Sparkles at Parkaire. A portion of the admission paid is donated back to Murdock.
Members of this committee is responsible for ordering and distributing Murdock school attire.
