Murdock Elementary Needs You!!!

The teachers, administration, and staff enthusiastically work together to teach and guide our students. They believe there are needs that can be met by a very special person – YOU, the volunteer, can provide assistance for students needing extra help, make fun learning activities and bulletin boards, assist teachers with paperwork, or help in the Media Center. These areas and many more need your help. Anyone can be a volunteer. Moms and Dads who can take the time to come to school, parents with preschoolers who can work on projects at home or make phone calls, working parents who can bake cookies, type, etc. We all have special talents to share.

There are a few procedures and practices which every volunteer needs to know and follow.
Every time you come to the school, you must sign in and out on the register in the school office. While at school, all visitors and volunteers must wear a visitor/volunteer badge. Badges are available in the school office – return the badge when signing out. The administration needs to know of your presence, and the PTA has to keep an accurate record of volunteer hours. If you park behind cars in the parking lot, please fill out the information sheet in the office by the sign-in sheet. If you are expected at a certain time, please be prompt. If for some reason you cannot come to school at your agreed time, please send a note to the teacher or call the school office @ 770-509-5071, as soon as possible so that necessary arrangements can be made.

Respect the learning environment of the school and/or classroom. Keep noises at a minimum and avoid interruptions of instructional time. Remember that although you may come in contact with your child’s teacher, volunteer time is not a time for conferences. Respect the confidentiality of your relationship to the school. Abide by school rules and work cooperatively with the staff. Any concerns that you have about the school, staff, or procedures, should be expressed only to the person in charge.
Make childcare arrangements for preschool children. We welcome younger brothers and sisters at lunch, but they are distracting in the classroom. Because of the paper cutter, hot laminating, and other equipment, children are not allowed in the Learning Resource Lab or in the copy room.
Always encourage the students. Reward their successes with a smile. Notice even the slightest improvement. It is nice to work with friendly people – join them and come often.
